Piedmont Area Recreation Association

General Information

Piedmont Recreation Association of Union County, NC is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3, kvolunteer organization designed to provide a positive environment for the development of sportsmanship, athletic skills and character. We operate programs asfor youth between the ages of 4 and 16 in baseball, softball, football, basketball, cheerleading and Soccer. These programs are managed in accordance with guidelines set forth by national youth sports rganizations. This organization serves the youth of the Unionville, Fairview and New Salem area schools.

Mission Statement & Goals

Piedmont Recreation Association's mission is to impress upon young people the benefits of physical fitness within the concept of competitive team sports and the rules of the sport.

Members of the association shall be members of good moral character who are interested in the promotion of the goals of the association. Members must reside within specific boundaries set by the organizations with which we are affiliated.

Below are our goals:

  • To provide a proper and safe sports environment for our youth.
  • To enhance the emotional, physical, social and education well being of our youth.
  • To appoint, evaluate, educate and support the managers and coaches who will instruct our participants, keeping in mind the best interests of our children
  • To assure basic levels of knowledge and instruction are introduced at each level of play.
  • To encourage parents to take an active role in the youth sports experience of their child and our association.
  • To adequately communicate to our members, all policies and rules changes in policies and rules, activities, events and any other pertinent information.
  • To guarantee equal opportunity for membership to all youth regardless of race, creed, sex, economic status or ability.

Safe and Drug Free Schools:

After June 30, 2010, the Safe and Drug Free Schools Program will no longer receive federal funding. This funding allows the program to provide information on youth alcohol and drug use to parents, teachers and the county's nearly 40,000 students through literature, classroom instruction and community awareness. The program also provides resources and information on other issues such as bullying, character education and life skills.

PRA Adopts Tobacco Free Policy

For the health of our youth, all tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, pipes and/or smokeless tobacco) are prohibited by everyone, at all times, on PRA park grounds and facilities. Policy adopted by PRA Board of Directors, effective May 1, 2007.
